JOOD ALTHUKAIR is a writer, researcher, and Rhodes Scholar. She holds an MSt in Comparative Literature and Critical Translation from the University of Oxford, focusing on desert politics and women’s oral poetry in Saudi Arabia.

She is interested in researching refugee and forced migration in Arab communities, as well as the intersections between politics and literature that mark the features of Khaleeji women’s oral traditions—paying special attention to the aftereffects of oil on their collective movements. Jood writes on decolonization, untranslatability, (anti)nostalgia, and Arab and postcolonial literature. Her work has been featured in Khaleejesque, Cordite, Rusted Radishes, Vagabond City, and more.

Jood is also the founding editor-in-chief of Sumou, an Arab magazine and platform, publishing over 5 issues and hundreds of works.
